## Probable cause

THE ENGINE AILURE FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. FACTORS WERE THE LIGHT CONDITION AND THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, landing
  - stall - intentional, pilot in command
  - object - tree(s)
  - light condition - night (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE HAD JUST BECOME ESTABLISHED ON FINAL APPROACH WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. ALL ATTEMPTS TO REGAIN POWER FAILED. THE PILOT INTENTIONALLY STALLED THE AIRPLANE INTO TREE TOPS. THE ENGINE WAS LATER FUNCTIONALLY TESTED AND PERFORMED SATISFACTORY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910802034839A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910802034839A), Aug 2, 1991: Beech J35, Tulsa, OK, Destroyed. Engine sputtered and quit on final. Stalled into trees short of runway. Engine ran normal post accident.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
