## Probable cause

AIRCRAFT CLIMB PERFORMANCE EXCEEDED. FACTORS WERE: AIRCRAFT GROSS WEIGHT EXCEEDED, GRASS RUNWAY SELECTED, TAKEOFF FLAPS NOT USED, AND PREMATURE ROTATION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - aborted
  - aircraft weight and balance - exceeded, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lowering of flaps - not performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - rotation - premature, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - aircraft performance,climb capability - exceeded (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE OVER GROSS WEIGHT AIRPLANE MADE HIS TAKEOFF RUN ON THE GRASS NEXT TO A PAVED RUNWAY. FLAPS WERE NOT USED. AFTER LIFTOFF, THE PILOT TRIED TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE IN GROUND EFFECT, BUT THE RUNWAY SLOPED DOWN AND THE AIRPLANE SETTLED. REALIZING HE WOULD NOT CLEAR TREES AHEAD, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A PARKING LOT BETWEEN AN APARTMENT HOUSE COMPLEX AND A CHURCH. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE AIRPLANE STRUCK A GARBAGE DUMPSTER, CRUSHING THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CABIN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920617020769A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920617020769A), Jun 17, 1992: Beech V35B, Tulsa, OK, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Tried depart on grass adjacent to runway. Unable to climb. Aborted. Hit dumpster. Over gross. High temperature.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
