## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE LEFT VOLTAGE REGULATOR. FACTORS WERE: FAILURE OF THE PILOT/MECHANIC TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN THE AIRCRAFT, AND FAILURE OF THE RIGHT ALTERNATOR CIRCUIT BREAKER.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Fire, cruise - normal
  - electrical system,voltmeter - failure,total (cause)
  - maintenance - not performed, pilot in command
  - electrical system,circuit breaker - failure,total (contributing factor)

## Analysis

WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT, ON AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN, WITH THE RIGHT ALTERNATOR INOPERATIVE, THE LEFT VOLTAGE REGULATOR FAILED CAUSING AN OVER VOLTAGE AND SUBSEQUENT ELECTRICAL FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED AND THE FLIGHT CONTINUED WITHOUT COMMUNICATIONS OR NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT TO THE PLANNED DESTINATION WHERE REPAIRS WERE CONDUCTED.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
