## Probable cause

THE PILOT MISJUDGED INITIATION OF THE GO-AROUND FOLLOWING A BALKED LANDING. A FACTOR WAS: HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, landing - aborted
  - object - tree(s)
  - go-around - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - high density altitude (contributing factor)

## Analysis

DURING APPROACH TO A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP THE PILOT WAS HIGH AND LANDED NEAR MIDFIELD ON A 1,700 FOOT GRASS STRIP. HE BECAME CONCERNED THAT HE WOULD BE UNABLE TO STOP ON THE RUNWAY REMAINING AND INITIATED A GO-AROUND. DURING THE GO-AROUND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK TREES OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY. AIRPORT ELEVATION IS 6,700 FEET AND THE DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,800 FEET.

- [Accident 19920704023839A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920704023839A), Jul 4, 1992: Cessna 170B, Franktown, CO, Substantial damage. Too high on approach for short strip. Began belated go around and struck trees off end runway. High density altitude

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
