## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING LANDING ROLL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

DURING LANDING ROLL THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND NOSED OVER. THE PILOT STATED THAT NO MECHANICAL DISCREPANCIES WERE FOUND.

## Factual narrative

On August 15, 1993, at approximately 1200 mountain daylight time, a Cessna 140, N1142D, was substantially damaged when it nosed over after landing at a private airstrip near Lake Arthur, New Mexico. The private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for this local area personal flight.

According to the pilot after a landing roll of 200 to 300 feet, the aircraft veered to the left, departed the side of the runway for undetermined reasons, and nosed over. During an interview, conducted by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot stated that no mechanical discrepancies were found.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930815029319A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930815029319A), Aug 15, 1993: Cessna STC140, Lake Arthur, NM, Substantial damage. Lost directional control landing. Left the runway and nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
