## Factual narrative

On March 23, 2009, at 1700 Atlantic standard time, a Piper PA31-350 Chieftain, PT-EHG, sustained minor damage from a landing-gear brake fire after landing at Lorenzo Airport (SNCL), Cairu, Brazil. The pilot and seven passengers were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight that departed Salvador Luis R. Magalhaes Airport (SBSV). According to information released by Centro de Investgação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronauticos (CENIPA), the airplane suffered a brake "failure." The pilot shut down the engines and the airplane departed the left side of the runway. After the airplane came to rest, the left brake assembly ignited, and the pilot extinguished the fire with the airplane's hand-held fire extinguisher. The airplane sustained minor damage in the left brake assembly and in the left main landing gear. This investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Brazil.
