## Probable cause

The pilot’s inadequate braking after touchdown, which resulted in a runway excursion.

## Findings

NTSB's coded findings; those marked are part of the probable cause.

## Analysis

The pilot stated that after touchdown he did not apply maximum braking and attempted to let the airplane slow down on its own. As the airplane approached the end of the runway, the pilot realized that the airplane would not stop in time and aggressively applied the brakes, sending the airplane into a skid off the end of the runway. The right wing and propeller collided with a fence, resulting in substantial damage to both. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions with the airplane.

## Factual narrative

The pilot stated that he was performing a landing on runway 29. After touchdown, the pilot did not apply maximum braking and attempted "to let the plane slow down on by itself." As the airplane approached the end of the runway, the pilot realized that the airplane would not stop in time and aggressively applied the brakes, sending the airplane into a skid off the end of the runway. The right wing and propeller hit a fence, incurring substantial damage to both. The pilot did not report any mechanical malfunctions with the airplane prior to the accident.

## Docket (1 files)

The files NTSB released with the investigation on November 17, 2010, on NTSB's docket system: https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket?ProjectID=75763. 723 KB in all.

- Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident Report, NTSB Form 6120.1 (item 1, .PDF, 723 KB): https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket/Document/docBLOB?ID=40330273&FileExtension=.PDF&FileName=Pilot%2FOperator%20Aircraft%20Accident%20Report,%20NTSB%20Form%206120.1-Redacted.PDF

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
