  - proper altitude - not obtained, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

AFTER TAXIING AROUND THE SHORELINE, TAKING-OFF, AND LANDING AGAIN, THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO TAKEOFF A SECOND TIME BECAUSE HIS LEFT PONTOON WAS SUBMERGING. HE PROCEEDED TO DRAIN THE WATER OUT AT A PUBLIC BOAT DOCK AND ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A DOWNWIND TAKEOFF DUE TO AN APPROACHING THUNDERSTORM. THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH TREES AFTER FAILING TO GAIN ALTITUDE DURING THE TAKEOFF RUN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19820528019959A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820528019959A), May 28, 1982: Conaer LA4200, Canyon Lake, TX, Destroyed. Pilot attempted downwind takeoff on lake, aircraft collided with trees and crashed. Thunderstorms in area.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
