## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering
  - precautionary landing - simulated, pilot in command(cfi) (contributing factor)
  - altitude - misjudged, dual student (cause)
  - supervision - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - object - tree(s) (contributing factor)

## Analysis

DURING A PRE-SOLO FLT, THE FLT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) ASKED THE STUDENT TO MAKE A SIMULATED FORCED LANDING APCH TO A ROAD. THE STUDENT MADE THE APCH, BUT WHILE HE WAS MAKING A GO-AROUND MANEUVER, THE ACFT'S RIGHT WING TIP COLLIDED WITH A TREE ON A RISE IN THE TERRAIN. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO FLY & WAS LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19830809039749A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830809039749A), Aug 9, 1983: Cessna 172P, Albuquerque, NM, Substantial damage. Descended to unsafe altitude during a simulated forced landing on a road. Then allowed a tree strike on go around.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
