## Probable cause

VISUAL LOOKOUT WAS NOT MAINTAINED BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND, WHICH RESULTED IN THE COLLISION WITH A POWER TRANSMISSION LINE DURING A SWATH RUN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering - aerial application
  - object - wire,transmission (contributing factor)
  - visual lookout - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE WAS BEING UTILIZED AS AN AERIAL APPLICATON AIRPLANE AND WAS SPRAYING A FIELD WITH CHEMICALS WHEN IT FLEW STRAIGHT INTO HIGH VOLTAGE POWER LINES. IT BOUNCED BACK FROM THE LINES AND FELL TO THE GROUND. THE PILOT DOES NOT REMEMBER THE ACCIDENT OR THE CIRCUMSTANCES LEADING TO THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890529015759A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890529015759A), May 29, 1989: Scwzer G164A, Kaplan, LA, Destroyed. Struck a powerline and crashed during an aerial application spray run.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
