## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S CONTINUED OPERATION WITH A KNOWN MALFUNCTIONING ENGINE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - nonmechanical, takeoff - initial climb
  - ignition system, spark plug - fouled (contributing factor)
  - operation with known deficiencies in equipment - performed, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, takeoff - initial climb

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD BEEN HAVING TO 'BURN OUT' THE ENGINE BEFORE EACH TAKEOFF IN ORDER TO OBTAIN TAKEOFF POWER. HE ALSO STATED THAT DURING THIS ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF THE ENGINE LOADED UP AND WOULD NOT DEVELOP SUFFICIENT POWER TO MAINTAIN FLIGHT. A TOP OVERHAUL WAS TO HAVE BEEN PERFORMED TWO DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE AIRPLANE WAS NOT ABLE TO CLIMB AND IMPACTED INTO AN ADJACENT FIELD.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900726029349A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900726029349A), Jul 26, 1990: Wsk M18DROMADER, Hunter, AR, Destroyed. Engine loaded up on takeoff. Lost partial power. Cartwheeled landing off end of strip. Cause power loss unknown.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
