## Probable cause

A PARTIAL POWER LOSS DUE TO FAILURE OF THE NUMBER FIVE CONNECTING ROD. A FACTOR WAS THE SOFT TERRAIN IN WHICH THE FORCED LANDING WAS MADE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - aerial application
  - engine assembly,connecting rod - failure,total (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE AND INITIATED A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. TERRAIN WAS UNSUITABLE AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER AFTER TOUCHDOWN. ENGINE DISASSEMBLY REVEALED A BROKEN CONNECTING ROD.

## Other investigations on N5213 (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
