## Probable cause

THE POWER LOSS DUE TO SUPER CHARGER IMPELLER FAILURE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, maneuvering - aerial application
  - eng assembly,blower/impeller/integral supercharger - failure,total (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose over, landing - flare/touchdown
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - wet (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID HE EXPEREINCED A PARTIAL POWER LOSS OVER THE FIELD HE WAS SPRAYING. HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN FLIGHT AND PERFORMED A FORCED LANDING IN A WET SOFT ADJACENT RICE FIELD, RESULTING IN A NOSEOVER. ENGINE EXAMINATION REVEALED FAILURE OF THE SUPERCHARGER IMPELLER SHAFT BEARINGS, WHICH CAUSED FAILURE OF THE SUPERCHARGER IMPELLER. FAILED PARTS CONTAMINATED THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM CAUSING THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVES TO BE WEDGED OPEN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900525051629A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900525051629A), May 25, 1990: Scwzer G164A, Altair, TX, Destroyed. Tried to depart a weed-grown,soft dirt strip. On liftoff, spreader hit weeds. Aircraft settled, hit a levee and burned

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
