## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE EVALUATION OF THE WEATHER INFORMATION. A RELATED FACTOR TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE TAILWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, takeoff - initial climb
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - weather evaluation - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - fence
  - object - tree(s)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE AG PILOT SAID THAT DURING TAKEOFF WITH THE 8TH LOAD OF THE DAY, THE AIRPLANE WOULD NOT CLEAR THE TOP WIRE OF A FENCE. IT HIT THE WIRE AND SMALL TREES, THEN CAME TO REST 100 YARDS PAST THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT SAID THAT AFTER HE EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE, HE FOUND THE WIND HAD SHIFTED TO A TAILWIND. THERE WAS NO WINDSOCK OR WIND MEASURING EQUIPMENT AT THE AIRSTRIP.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900513017219A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900513017219A), May 13, 1990: Scwzer G164B, Basile, LA, Destroyed. Tried to take off full load, downwind. Wheels caught top wire of barbed wire fence, fence caused cartwheel and crash

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
