## Probable cause

WRONG RUNWAY SELECTED BY SECOND PILOT. FACTORS WERE: TAILWIND AND INADEQUATE SUPERVISION BY PILOT-CFI.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - wrong runway - selected, copilot/second pilot (cause)
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - supervision - inadequate, pilot in command(cfi)
  - aborted takeoff - performed, pilot in command(cfi)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - aborted
  - object - fence

## Analysis

THE PILOT COMMENCED A DOWNWIND TAKEOFF. AN UNSATISFACTORY RATE OF CLIMB AND A LEFT DRIFT WERE NOTED UPON LIFTOFF. THE PILOT UNDER TRAINING REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT. AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO REJECT THE TAKEOFF. INSUFFICIENT RUNWAY REMAINED TO STOP THE AIRPLANE WHICH DEPARTED THE END OF THE RUNWAY, TRAVERSED A FIELD, CROSSED A ROAD, STRUCK A FENCE THEN CAME TO REST INVERTED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900722027659A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900722027659A), Jul 22, 1990: Beech 77, Chisholm, TX, Substantial damage. Failed to note windshift on takeoff due frontal passage. Uble to stay airborne aborted ran off end and overturned.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
