## Probable cause

STUDENT PILOT'S FAILURE TO EXECUTE A GO-AROUND IN A TIMELY MANNER.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, go-around (vfr)
  - object - tree(s)
  - go-around - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT ABORTED HIS FIRST ATTEMPT AT LANDING ON THE PRIVATE STRIP DUE TO THE AIRPLANE HAVING DEVELOPED A SINK RATE OVER A RAVINE LOCATED JUST SHORT OF THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. THE SAME SITUATION DEVELOPED ON THE SECOND APPROACH, HOWEVER, THE PILOT DELAYED IN INITIATING THE GO-AROUND AND THE LANDING GEAR STRUCK SOME BRUSH AND THE AIRPLANE FLIPPED OVER SHORT OF THE RUNWAY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900818034059A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900818034059A), Aug 18, 1990: Piper PA28140, Kansas, OK, Substantial damage. Reported downdraft on final. Added power but gear struck brush flipping the aircraft over short of the runway.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
