## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. A FACTOR WAS: ROUGH/UNEVEN TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - roll/run
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PILOT HAD LANDED ON A ROUGH PIPELINE RIGHT-OF-WAY TO CONDUCT BUSINESS AT A NEARBY OIL RIG. DURING THE ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF, DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WAS LOST DURING THE INITIAL ROLL. THE AIRPLANE STRUCK TWO TREES AND CAME TO REST. THE PILOT DID NOT REPORT THAT THE INTENDED TAKEOFF AREA HAD BEEN EXAMINED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900912039079A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900912039079A), Sep 12, 1990: Univar M10, Rocoe, TX, Substantial damage. Struck a bush on takeoff roll on pipeline right of way. Impact rotated aircraft into a cedar tree.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
