## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S SELECTION OF THE DOWNWIND RUNWAY FOR LANDING. A FACTOR WAS THE TAILWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - wrong runway - selected, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - dirt bank/rising embankment
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PILOT LANDED TO THE SOUTH WITH WIND FROM 040 DEGREES AT 10 GUSTING TO 18 KNOTS. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT'S STATEMENT, HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON THE RUNWAY, AND THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A DITCH, AND NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910223003429A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910223003429A), Feb 23, 1991: Scwzer G164A, Light, AR, Substantial damage. Overran runway into a ditch and over turned while landing downwind of Private strip.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
