## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. FACTORS WERE THE WET RUNWAY AND THE DITCH STRUCK AFTER CONTROL WAS LOST.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - wet (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - aborted landing - attempted, pilot in command
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - aborted
  - terrain condition - ditch (contributing factor)
- Nose over, landing - aborted

## Analysis

DURING LANDING ROLL ON A WET MUDDY STRIP THE AIRPLANE BEGAN SLIDING. POWER WAS ADDED IN AN ATTEMPTED ABORTED LANDING. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT 'THE ENGINE COUGHED' AND THE LEFT MAIN GEAR SLID INTO A DITCH CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO NOSEOVER.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
