## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE ENGINE FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. FACTORS WERE THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR A FORCED LANDING AND THE ROUGH TERRAIN THAT WAS ENCOUNTERED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, cruise
  - reason for occurrence undetermined
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT SHORTLY AFTER CONFIGURING THE AIRPLANE FOR LOW LEVEL CRUISE FLIGHT, HE BEGAN TO LOSE ENGINE POWER AND WHEN HE ADVANCED THE THROTTLE AND PROPELLER CONTROLS THE ENGINE QUIT COMPLETELY. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND ON A HIGHWAY RIGHT OF WAY. THERE WAS NO OTHER SUITABLE TERRAIN. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION DID NOT REVEAL THE CAUSE FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910508014539A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910508014539A), May 8, 1991: Ayres S2RR1340REST, Beaumont, TX, Substantial damage. Reported lower loss. Crash landed. No engine defects found.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
