## Probable cause

THE PILOT LOST CONTROL AT LOW LEVEL. FACTORS WERE THE PILOT ATTEMPTING AEROBATIC MANEUVERS WITH INSUFFIENT ALTITUDE FOR RECOVERY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering
  - aerobatics - attempted, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - altitude - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PRIVATE PILOT WAS RETURNING TO THE AIRPARK IN HIS EXPERIMENTAL AIRPLANE AND WAS OBSERVED TO MAKE SEVERAL LOW LEVEL AEROBATIC MANEUVERS OVER THE AIRSTRIP. DURING THE SECOND TIGHT BANKING MANEUVER, CONTROL WAS LOST. THE AIRPLANE DESCENDED UNCONTROLLED AND IMPACTED THE TERRAIN. A SMALL POST-IMPACT FIRE RESULTED. THE EVENT WAS VIDEO TAPED AND INVESTIGATORS WERE GIVEN A COPY FOR ANALYSIS. NO MECHANICAL FAILURES WERE FOUND DURING THE INVESTIGATION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19901117050859A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19901117050859A), Nov 17, 1990: Semco MARKV, Sequin, TX, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Performed low altitude aerobatics over airport. Lost control. Crashed and burned. Insufficent altitude to recover.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
