## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR THE CROSSWIND. A FACTOR WAS THE CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - landing gear,nose gear - overload
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

DURING THE LANDING ROLL AT NIGHT THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE WHEN HE FAILED TO ADEQUATELY COMPENSATE FOR THE EXISTING CROSS WIND CONDITIONS. THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND TRAVELED 75 FEET (2,800 FROM THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY) BEFORE IT CAME TO REST IN THE INVERTED POSITION. DURING THE GROUND RUN OFF THE RUNWAY THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910314005389A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910314005389A), Mar 14, 1991: Beech A36, Lubbock, TX, Substantial damage. On landing crosswind gust forced aircraft off runway. Tried go around. Collapsed nose gear. Nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
