## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DUE TO LOCKED WHEEL BRAKE ON THE LEFT LANDING GEAR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - landing gear, normal brake system - locked (cause)
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence

## Analysis

A PRIVATE PILOT ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF HIS TAILWHEEL-EQUIPPED AIRPLANE UPON TOUCHDOWN. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER AND MANAGED TO ABORT THE LANDING. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT TO LAND, HE WAS ONCE AGAIN PULLED TO THE LEFT, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE RUNWAY AND STRUCK A FENCE. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE ACTUATING CABLE CONNECTING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE WHEEL BRAKE ON THE LEFT WHEEL WAS LOCKED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910630024839A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910630024839A), Jun 30, 1991: Bbavia 7ECA, Clinton, AR, Substantial damage. Veered left on landing. Went around but this time veered off runway into a fence. Left brake cable was locked.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
