## Probable cause

POWER LOSS FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. A FACTOR WAS LACK OF UNSUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, maneuvering - aerial application
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)
  - object - tree(s)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

DURING A SWATH TURNING MANEUVER AN ENGINE POWER LOSS OCCURRED. THE PILOT IMPACTED TREES AND TERRAIN DURING THE FORCED LANDING. A POST CRASH FIRE DESTROYED THE AIRPLANE. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE DID NOT REVEAL ANY ANOMALIES THAT WOULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT. WITNESSES REPORTED THE PILOT HAD DEPARTED WITH APPROXIMATELY 1,100 POUNDS OF CHEMICAL AND FUEL. THEY ALSO REPORTED THE TEMPERATURE AS 95 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND A DENSITY ALTITUDE OF 2,800 FEET.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920624021669A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920624021669A), Jun 24, 1992: Cessna 188ACESSNA, Idabel, OK, Destroyed, 1 fatal. Wreckage indicates stall into trees. Application for ag certificate held in abeyance due aircraft discrepancies.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
