INADVERTENT STALL. A FACTOR WAS A TOTAL POWER LOSS DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, go-around (vfr)
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion (contributing factor)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Loss of control - in flight, descent - emergency
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

DURING A DAYTIME STUDENT PILOT SOLO CROSS COUNTRY, THE PILOT BECAME DISORIENTED, FLEW ALONG A HIGHWAY, AND EVENTUALLY REQUESTED AND RECEIVED VECTORS TO THE AIRPORT. DURING THE VFR APPROACH THE AIRPLANE WAS TOO HIGH AND AS THE PILOT INITIATED THE GO AROUND THERE WAS A TOTAL POWER LOSS DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. A WITNESS REPORTED THAT THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE TERRAIN NOSE DOWN AND THEN WENT INVERTED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920226004109A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920226004109A), Feb 26, 1992: Cessna 172F, Mcalester, OK, Substantial damage. Disoriented. Vectored to nearest airport after passing destination. Out of fuel on final. Dived aircraft into ground

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
