## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL PHASE OF A TOUCH AND GO.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - roll/run
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - roll/run
  - object - sign
  - aborted takeoff - performed, pilot in command

## Analysis

A 250 HOUR PRIVATE PILOT WAS EXECUTING THE SECOND TOUCH AND GO LANDING OF THE DAY ON RUNWAY 33. THE WINDS WERE REPORTED FROM 360 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS. THE PILOT WAS ON HIS TAKEOFF ROLL WHEN THE AIRPLANE STARTED DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT, EVENTUALLY DEPARTING THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDING WITH A MARKING SIGN. AFTER IMPACT, THE PILOT ABORTED THE TAKEOFF AND TAXIED BACK TO THE RAMP.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920307007449A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920307007449A), Mar 7, 1992: Blanca 1730A, Santa Fe, NM, Substantial damage. Veered off runway on takeoff roll. Right wing struck a sign. Takeoff aborted. Returned to ramp.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
