## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE DUE TO DIVERTED ATTENTION.

## Analysis

DURING A DAYLIGHT FLIGHT THE PILOT WAS EN ROUTE TO A GRASS STRIP WHEN HE NOTICED ANOTHER AIRPLANE DEPARTING HIS INTENDED LANDING AREA. ## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920316007979A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920316007979A), Mar 16, 1992: Ayres S2RT34NORMAL, Wright, AR, Substantial damage. Flew airplane into ground watching another airplane departing runway of intended use. Cartwheeled on ground impact.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
