## Probable cause

PARTIAL ENGINE POWER LOSS DUE TO CYLINDER FAILURE. A FACTOR WAS THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(partial) - mech failure/malf, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - engine assembly,cylinder - failure,partial (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - uncontrolled
  - object - tree(s)
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)

## Analysis

WHILE CONDUCTING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS THE AIRPLANE WAS ON APPROACH TO THE GRASS AIRSTRIP WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, ONE CYLINDER STARTED LOSING POWER AND THE AIRPLANE COULD NOT MAINTAIN ALTITUDE. THE PILOT MADE AN EMERGENCY FORCED LANDING OFF AIRPORT INTO A WOODED AREA AND IMPACTED TREES.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920229010049A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920229010049A), Feb 29, 1992: Amtrpk TEENIE2, Edmond, OK, Substantial damage. Reported one cylinder lost power made forced landing near airport and rolled into trees.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
