## Probable cause

THE ANIMALS IN THE LANDING AREA. A FACTOR WAS THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, maneuvering - aerial application
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (contributing factor)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Main gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - object - animal(s) (cause)
  - aircraft handling - abrupt, pilot in command

## Analysis

DURING DAY AGRICULTURE OPERATIONS THE AIRPLANE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND THE PILOT EXECUTED A FORCED LANDING. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, A HERD OF CATTLE SUDDENLY CAME INTO VIEW AND THE PILOT WAS FORCED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. HE ABRUPTLY CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF THE AIRPLANE, RESULTING IN THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSING. THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSS WAS NOT DETERMINED.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
