## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE LEFT BRAKE WHICH LED TO A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. A FACTOR WAS THE ROUGH TERRAIN IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - landing gear,normal brake system - failure,partial (cause)
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - dirt bank/rising embankment (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - ditch (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LEFT BRAKE FAILURE DURING THE LANDING ROLL AND THE AIRPLANE DRIFTED RIGHT OFF OF THE DIRT STRIP. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE RETARDED POWER, BUT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE AIRPLANE SUBSEQUENTLY STRUCK A LEVEE AND A ROAD DITCH.

## Other investigations on N8629H (2)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
