## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE TERRAIN CLEARANCE. A FACTOR WAS THE LOSS OF POWER AS RESULT OF THE UNCOUPLING OF THE ENGINE AND THE PROPELLER.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, maneuvering - aerial application
  - terrain condition - berm
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - landing gear,main gear - sheared
  - propeller system/accessories - disconnected
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Loss of engine power, maneuvering - turn to landing area (emergency)

## Analysis

AN AGRICULTURAL AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A LEVEE SEVERING BOTH MAIN LANDING GEARS. AS THE PILOT APPLIED POWER TO ATTEMPT TO FLY TO AN AIRPORT FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING, POWER WAS LOST DUE TO THE UNCOUPLING OF THE ENGINE AND PROPELLER. DURING THE ENSUING FORCED LANDING, THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920523016729A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920523016729A), May 23, 1992: Scwzer G164B, Walnut Ridge, AR, Substantial damage. Impacted levee on spray run. Severed main gear. Tried to return to base but prop uncoupled. Nosed over on landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
