## Probable cause

THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT'S DELAYED REMEDIAL ACTION, IMPROPER CONFIGURATION, AND INADVERTENT STALL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - emergency procedure - simulated, pilot in command(cfi)
  - lowering of flaps - not performed, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command(cfi) (cause)
- Complete gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT ATTEMPTED TO DEMONSTRATE A LOSS OF POWER ON ONE ENGINE DURING TAKEOFF AFTER LIFTOFF. HE RETARDED ONE THROTTLE TO SIMULATE AN ENGINE FAILURE UPON REACHING AN ALTITUDE OF 150 FEET ABOVE THE RUNWAY. THE LANDING GEAR REMAINED IN THE DOWN POSITION. THE OPERATING ENGINE WAS THEN REDUCED FOR LANDING. DURING THE FLARE, HE NOTED THE FLAPS WERE NOT DOWN AND POWER WAS ADDED. THE AIRPLANE STALLED AND A HARD LANDING RESULTED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920608036279A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920608036279A), Jun 8, 1992: Beech 76, Sherman-Denison, TX, Substantial damage. CFI was demostrating engine out landing. Flared high stalled and impacted runway. CFI failed to note flaps were up.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
