## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR THE WIND CONDITIONS. THE TURBULENT WINDS NEAR THE END OF THE RUNWAY WERE A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - downdraft (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT ON SHORT FINAL, JUST BEFORE THE FLARE, THE AIRPLANE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE UP AND DOWN DRAFTS. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED THE RUNWAY DURING ONE OF THE DOWN DRAFTS AND INCURRED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO FLARE THE AIRPLANE PRIOR TO IMPACT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920630022709A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920630022709A), Jun 30, 1992: Cessna R172K, Eufaula, OK, Substantial damage. Impacted runway nose down, bounced and porpoised. Blamed gusty wind.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
