## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AIRCRAFT CONTROL AND THE INADVERTENT STALL. A FACTOR WAS THE PILOT'S EVASIVE MANEUVER TO AVOID AN UNDETERMINED OBJECT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Abrupt maneuver, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - object - undetermined (contributing factor)
  - maneuver - attempted, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING AN APPROACH TO LANDING THE PILOT OBSERVED AN UNIDENTIFIED OBSTRUCTION IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT COULD NOT REMEMBER WHAT THE OBSTRUCTION WAS DUE TO HEAD INJURIES THAT HE SUSTAINED IN THE ACCIDENT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED AN ABRUPT EVASIVE MANEUVER TO THE LEFT, HOWEVER, HE LOST CONTROL. THE AIRPLANE IMPACTED TERRAIN TO THE LEFT AND SHORT OF THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD IN A NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921024056309A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921024056309A), Oct 24, 1992: Cessna 150M, Commerce, TX, Destroyed. Reported runway obstruction seen on final. Began avoidence manuever. Lost control and crashed.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
