## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. FACTORS WERE THE LOW ALTITUDE AND UNSUITABLE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, takeoff - initial climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing
  - altitude - not attained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - soft

## Analysis

DURING A DAYLIGHT TAKEOFF THE ENGINE LOST TOTAL POWER AT 150 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. THE PILOT SELECTED A NEARBY ROAD FOR HIS LANDING, HOWEVER, HE WAS UNABLE TO REACH IT AND HE HAD TO LAND IN UNSUITABLE TERRAIN, AN ARROYO. AN EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE DID NOT REVEAL THE REASON FOR THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921113046519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921113046519A), Nov 13, 1992: Amtrpe FLIGHTSTAR, Albuquerque, NM, Substantial damage. Reported engine siezed on climbout. Crash landed in a rroyo. No anomaly found that could have caused power loss.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
