## Probable cause

THE COLLAPSING OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR AS RESULT OF A WORN GEAR LOCKING MECHANISM. A FACTOR WAS THE CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Main gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - landing gear, gear locking mechanism - worn (cause)
  - landing gear,gear locking mechanism - failure,total (cause)
  - directional control - not possible, pilot in command
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - sign

## Analysis

A PILOT TOOK TWO PROSPECTIVE AIRPLANE BUYERS FOR A LOCAL DEMONSTRATION FLIGHT. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT ON RUNWAY 36, THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. AFTER VEERING OFF THE RUNWAY AND IMPACTING A TAXIWAY MARKER, THE LEFT GEAR COLLAPSED. THE WINDS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WERE FROM 290 DEGREES AT 12 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 20 KNOTS. EXAMINATION OF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR REVEALED A WORN BUSHING IN THE GEAR DOWN LOCK MECHANISM.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921210051999A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921210051999A), Dec 10, 1992: Blanca 1730, Little Rock, AR, Substantial damage. Right main gear collapsed due sideload and worn downlock during crosswind landing. Rotated and collapsed left gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
