## Probable cause

A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS. A FACTOR WAS THE UNSUITABLE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, maneuvering - turn to reverse direction
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)
  - terrain condition - soft

## Analysis

DURING A PRACTICE NDB APPROACH THE PRIVATE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. HE REALIZED THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LAND AT THE AIRPORT SO HE ELECTED TO LAND AT THE ONLY AVAILABLE AREA, AN OPEN FIELD. DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE NOSE GEAR SANK INTO THE SOFT GROUND AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER TO THE INVERTED POSITION. THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER COULD NOT BE DETERMINED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921226051749A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921226051749A), Dec 26, 1992: Cessna T210L, Coleman, TX, Substantial damage. Reported engine failed on practice NDB approach. Landed in soft field and nosed over. No abnormalies in engine noted

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
