## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE CROSSWIND. A FACTOR WAS THE CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll

## Analysis

DURING A CROSSWIND LANDING THE RIGHT WING SUDDENLY ROSE UP. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE WAS INDICATING 50 KNOTS ON ROLL OUT AND HE FEARED HE WAS GOING TO RUN OFF THE RUNWAY AND HIT SOME TREES. HE REDUCED POWER AND THE AIRPLANE SPUN RIGHT 90 DEGREES AND THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. HE REPORTED WINDS FROM 140 TO 220 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 20 KNOTS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930123002459A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930123002459A), Jan 23, 1993: Namer AT6D, Fort Worth, TX, Substantial damage. Wind gust raised a wing on landing roll. Lost control and ground looped, collapsing left main landing gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
