## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN GROUND CLEARANCE

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, maneuvering - aerial application
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - ground
  - landing gear,main gear - separation
  - landing gear,main gear - overload
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing
  - aircraft control - not possible, pilot in command

## Analysis

DURING SPRAYING OPERATIONS THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO FLY UNDER SOME ELECTRICAL POWER LINES. HE FLEW TOO LOW AND IMPACTED THE GROUND, SEVERING THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR. AFTER GROUND IMPACT THE PILOT RETURNED TO A GRASS STRIP ON A LOCAL FARM AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND. DURING THE LANDING THE AIRPLANE CARTWHEELED

## Factual narrative

On May 11, 1993, at 0930 central daylight time (CDT), a Grumman G 164B, N91AY, was substantially damaged on landing near Ville Platte, Louisiana. The local flight was conducted under visual meteorological conditions (VMC). The commercial pilot was not injured. Aaron Young of Ville Platte, Louisiana, was the registered owner.

The pilot reported to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector that he was attempting to fly under some telephone wires when he impacted the ground. During ground impact, the airplane's right main landing gear was separated. He further reported that he returned to a grass strip on a local farm, and during the landing, the airplane cartwheeled.

The airplane was released to the owner.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930511014059A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930511014059A), May 11, 1993: Scwzer G164B, Ville Platte, LA, Substantial damage. Aircraft cartwheeled on rollout. Had lost right wheel on impacting ground attempting to fly under wires previously.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
