## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO REFUEL RESULTING IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION. THE LACK OF SUITABLE TERRAIN FOR THE FORCED LANDING WAS A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, cruise
  - all engines
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion (cause)
  - refueling - not performed, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - terrain condition - none suitable (contributing factor)
  - object - tree(s)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence post

## Analysis

During cruise flight the aircraft lost engine power and the pilot was forced to land in unsuitable terrain. During the landing the aicraft struck two fences and several small trees. An inspection of the aircraft at final rest revealed that there was no fuel in any of the fuel tanks or in the fuel system plumbing.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930514013849A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930514013849A), May 14, 1993: Cessna 310D, Roseland, LA, Substantial damage. Lost power en route. Had land unsuitable area. Struck two fences and several trees. Fuel tanks were empty.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
