## Probable cause

the pilot's improper application of brakes during the landing roll, resulting in a nose over.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

## Analysis

The airplane nosed over on the runway during the landing roll. The certified flight instructor and pilot receiving instruction were practicing touch-and-go's. The last landing was a wheel landing performed by the pilot receiving instruction. During the landing roll the pilot applied the wheel brakes, and the airplane nosed over on the runway.

## Factual narrative

On May 18, 2004, at 1723 mountain standard time, a Piper PA-18-150, N62712, nosed over during the landing roll at Chandler Municipal Airport, Chandler, Arizona. Chandler Air Service operated the airplane under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 91. The certified flight instructor and pilot receiving instruction were not injured, and the airplane was substantially damaged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed. The local instructional flight originated at Chandler Airport at 1635.

The CFI stated in the Pilot/Operator Accident Report (NTSB Form 6120.1/2) that they remained in the airport traffic pattern the entire flight practicing touch-and-go's. The last landing was a wheel landing performed by the pilot receiving instruction. During the landing roll the pilot applied the wheel brakes, and the airplane nosed over on the runway.
