## Probable cause

the pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind conditions and failure to maintain directional control.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - crosswind
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - not corrected, pilot in command
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - grass
- Nose gear collapsed, landing - roll

## Analysis

The airplane veered off the runway surface and collapsed the nose gear during the landing roll. During landing, the airplane touched down on the runway surface and rolled about 100 feet. The airplane then weather vaned into the crosswind, making a hard left turn. The airplane continued to veer to the left and departed the runway surface, rolling into the grassy area adjacent to the runway. The nose landing gear collapsed and the right wing contacted terrain. Upon egressing the airplane, the pilot noted a light to moderate crosswind. An aviation routine weather report (METAR) was issued at the airport about 7 minutes prior to the accident and reported winds from 100 degrees at 11 knots. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane.

## Factual narrative

The airplane veered off the runway surface during the landing roll. The pilot reported that he had been cleared to land on runway 13. The airplane touched down on the runway surface and rolled about 100 feet. The airplane weather vaned into the crosswind, making a subsequent hard left turn. The airplane continued to veer to the left and departed the runway surface, rolling into the grassy area adjacent to the runway. The nose landing gear collapsed and the right wing contacted terrain. Upon egressing the airplane the pilot noted a light to moderate crosswind. The airplane incurred damage to the firewall.

An aviation routine weather report (METAR) was issued at the airport about 7 minutes prior to the accident. It reported winds from 100 degrees at 11 knots.

The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
