## Probable cause

The pilot failed to maintain directional control during an aborted takeoff.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff - aborted
  - recovery from bounced landing - inadequate, pilot in command
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ground loop/swerve - not corrected, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - muddy

## Analysis

The airplane veered off the runway and nosed over during an aborted takeoff. The pilot reported that this was his first flight in the airplane. The airplane would not climb after liftoff and he decided to abort the takeoff and land the airplane from an altitude of 4 feet. The landing attempt resulted in a bounced landing. The airplane veered off the runway at 40 knots, traveled through muddy grass, and nosed over. The pilot stated that he misperceived the problem and did not apply the required control input force to effectively move the elevator, which would have resulted in greater pitch control.

## Factual narrative

The pilot reported that this was his first flight in the airplane. After liftoff the airplane would not climb, therefore, he decided to land the airplane from an altitude of 4 feet. The landing attempt resulted in a bounced landing. The airplane veered off the runway at 40 knots, traveled through muddy grass, and nosed over. The pilot stated that he misperceived the problem and did not apply the required control input force to effectively move the elevator, which would have resulted in greater pitch control.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
