## Analysis

DURING THE OVERFLIGHT OF THE UNCONTROLLED FIELD, BOTH PLTS NOTICED THAT THE WIND TEE INDICATED RWY 12 AS THE LANDING DIRECTION. DURING LANDING, THE ACFT FLOATED & TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 2/3 DOWN THE RWY. THE ACFT STRUCK A FENCE & TREES AT THE END OF THE RWY. SHORTLY AFTER THE ACCIDENT, SEVERAL ACFT MADE GO-AROUNDS DUE TO EXCESSIVE FLOATING. THE WIND TEE HADTO BE MANUALLY ALIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WIND SOCK, MOUNTED ON TOP OF THE TEE. THE WIND SOCK WAS FADED & DIFFICULT TO DISCRIMINATE FROM THE BRIGHT ORANGE COLOR OF THE WIND TEE. THE INSTRUCTOR PLT REPORTED THE WIND WAS FROM THE NORTH AT 15 KTS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19840310005539A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840310005539A), Mar 10, 1984: Cessna 172P, Pacoima, CA, Substantial damage. Floated down runway prior to touchdown and ran off the end into trees. Possible wind shift. Windsock faded.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
