THE ENGINES WERE SHUTDOWN AND THE CAPTAIN ORDERED A RIGHT SIDE EVACUATION, HOWEVER, THE LEFT SIDE, NOT ORDERED, WAS ALSO UTILIZED. DURING THE EVACUATION ONE PASSENGER WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE CHAFING ON THE FIRE SENSING ELEMENT OUTER TUBE AGAINST THE ENGINE THERMOCOUPLE FUNCTION BOX CREATED A CHANGE IN CAPACITANCE WITHIN THE ELEMENT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO ENERGIZE THE FIRE WARNING CIRCUITS. THE WAS NO FIRE. ONE PASSENGER SUFFERED A FRACTURED ANKLE DURING THE EVACTUATION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19870410009209A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870410009209A), Apr 10, 1987: Nihon YS11, Honolulu, HI. Takeoff was aborted for an engine fire warning light. Passenger injured after failing to follow instructions.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
