## Probable cause

A DOG SUDDENLY RUNNING ONTO THE ACTIVE RUNWAY IN FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT RESULTED IN A COLLISION AND SUBSTANTIAL AIRFRAME DAMAGE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - animal(s) (cause)
  - remedial action - not possible, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT ALL ASPECTS OF HIS FLIGHT, APPROACH, AND LANDING TOUCHDOWN WERE NORMAL. DURING HIS LANDING ROLL, HE NOTICED A DOG RUNNING ONTO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR STRUCK THE DOG. THE PILOT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PERFORM AN EVASIVE MANUEVER TO AVOID THE DOG.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900412008989A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900412008989A), Apr 12, 1990: Beech F33A, Yuba City, CA, Substantial damage. Struck a dog during landing roll. Dog ran in front of landing aircraft. Impact broke left main gear scissors.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
