## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILED MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL BY HIS FAILURE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE EXISTING WIND CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - ground loop/swerve - inadvertent, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Main gear collapsed, landing - roll
  - landing gear,main gear strut - overload

## Analysis

THE CERTIFICATED COMMERCIAL PILOT/FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR NOTED THAT A CROSSWIND EXISTED AT THE AIRPORT. THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN NORMALLY, BUT DURING THE LANDING ROLL-OUT THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL BY FAILING TO PROPERLY COMPENSATE FOR THE EXISTING WIND CONDITIONS. THE LEFT MAIN GEAR COLLAPSED DURING THE SUBSEQUENT GROUND LOOP.
