## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING LANDING. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE THE PILOT'S IMPROPER COMPENSATION FOR THE GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS, AND HER IMPROPER BOUNCED LANDING RECOVERY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - recovery from bounced landing - inadequate, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - tree(s)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED UPON LANDING, VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A TREE. THE WINDS WERE REPORTEDLY GUSTY AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900616021519A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900616021519A), Jun 16, 1990: Cessna 182A, Georgetown, CA, Substantial damage. Bounced landing. Wind gust veered aircraft. Ran off into gravel and struck trees.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
