## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE AIRCRAFT AND GROUND VEHICLE DURING A LOW PASS RESULTING IN AN IN FLIGHT COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE, LOSS OF CONTROL, AND IN FLIGHT COLLISION WITH TERRAIN. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE PILOT'S OSTENTATIOUS DISPLAY OF MAKING A LOW PASS OVER A GROUND VEHICLE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering
  - object - vehicle
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - ostentatious display, pilot in command
- Loss of control - in flight, climb
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled
  - terrain condition - ground

## Analysis

UPON ARRIVING OVER A RIVER BEACH AREA THE PILOT MADE LOW PASSES DOWN A NEARBY ROAD. ON HIS THIRD PASS THE AIRCRAFT COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK. THE PILOT ENTERED A CLIMB AFTER COLLISION, LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND IT IMPACTED THE GROUND.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910518016459A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910518016459A), May 18, 1991: Beech C23, Cibola, AZ, Substantial damage. Circling road at low altitude struck a vehicle. Impact severed gear. Crashed. Reported blackout due cracked muffler

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
