## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE VISUAL OUTLOOK TO DETECT POWER TRANSMISSION WIRES IN HIS FLIGHT PATH RESULTING IN AN ABRUPT MANEUVER AND SUBSEQUENT INADVERTENT STALL.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Abrupt maneuver, maneuvering - aerial application
  - visual lookout - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Loss of control - in flight, maneuvering - aerial application
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

AN EAGLE DW-1 COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND DURING AN AERIAL APPLICATION MANEUVER. THE PILOT STATED HE STALLED THE AIRPLANE AFTER AN ABRUPT MANEUVER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH POWER LINES.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910606020619A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910606020619A), Jun 6, 1991: Eagle DW1, Stockton, CA, Destroyed. Stalled in abrupt maneuver to avoid powerlines at end of spray run.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
